Thumbs Up!

Eddie had to have surgery on his hand this week. His words, "Sorry I am so accident prone!" Poor baby! Here's how it happened...He was using a hatchet and sledge hammer to chip away on some wood for his smoker this past weekend; and his thumb fell victim to the hatchet. We thought it was broken. He got it slammed between the two handles. After two days of icing and watching it swell. He finally went to the doctor and had an X-ray, only to find out it was not broken but had a piece of metal from the hatchet lodged into his hand. His doctor sent him to an orthopedic surgeon, who scheduled surgery immediately. Eddie was at risk for loosing mobility in his left thumb, which is also the hand he writes with. The doctor spoke to me after the procedure and said it was a good thing they acted fast because the metal was thru his tendon and into his joint and infection had already set in. The doctor gave me the metal so Eddie could see what was stuck inside his hand. Wow its been a crazy week, looking forward to our upcoming vacation that's for sure!
